The First Days

Laurel's first bath was quite traumatic. She did not enjoy being bathed by the nurses!

This was the first dress Laurel wore. It was pretty, but way too big for her little body!

Laurel wore this beautiful gown home from the hospital. It's a very special gown in Trey's family. Each child in his family has worn it home from the hospital, and the initials of each are monogrammed on the slip.

Laurel and I are dressed and ready (a real accomplishment) to leave the hospital and are waiting while Trey pulls the car around. We couldn't wait to go home!

Trey and I gave Laurel a tour of our house as soon as we got home. This is Laurel's room, and I'm telling her that her crib is where she'll sleep through the night!

Laurel and her tired daddy hang out after our first night home. After a busy night with just the three of us, we were ready for my parents to arrive!

Two days after we got home from the hospital, Laurel had her first doctor's visit. She weighed 7 lbs., 10 oz., which was great news! After the appointment, we stopped by Big Joe and Em's for breakfast with the Greats.

Big Joe took a turn holding Laurel, who was quite content to lay in his lap.
Em was thrilled we stopped by for breakfast, and couldn't wait to hold Laurel. She and I loved the bonnet Laurel wore with this dress, but both Big Joe and Trey demanded we take it off!
Our great friends, Heather, John and little John (LJ), stopped by for a visit. LJ wasn't too thrilled when his mom or dad held Laurel, but we're sure they'll be good friends soon!

The first few days home were busy and exhausting, but my mom, dad and sister, Emma, came to stay with us. It was so nice to have my mom there with all of her expertise in child-rearing! I was surprised when Emma told me that she'd never been around such a new baby--I'd been around at least 3 that I can remember (my younger siblings!). But being the youngest, Emma missed out on that. It was so special having her there and watching her interact with Laurel. She's such a great aunt!

Thanks, Momma, Daddy and Emma, for supporting us, feeding us, making us rest, and easing us into parenthood!

The First Light

On July 25, 2007, Trey and I welcomed our first little child, Laurel Elizabeth, into the world. She weighed in at 7 pounds even, and measured 19 1/2 inches long. She has a little bit of dark brown hair, and her eyes are a deep blue-gray. She was very alert when she was first born and couldn't wait to check out the world!

We had lots of visitors at the hospital. Trey's family was alerted when we arrived at the hospital (around 3:00am), and jumped in the car. They made it to the hospital just in time for Laurel's birth at 8:16am! My family came to visit Laurel too, which made for a very special day.
